Cattle IVF

CATTLE IVF –  NOW A POWERFUL GENETIC TOOL FOR YOU TO USE ON YOUR TOP COWS!

Cattle IVF is a non surgical procedure.  Using an ultrasound probe and needle we ‘suck’ oocytes (eggs) from the donor ovaries.  The oocytes are fertilized 24 hours later in the SARDI lab.  Over the next six days the embryos are grown.  The embryos can then be frozen or transfered fresh into recipient cows.

Cattle IVF candidates

  • older cows
  • problem cows
  • pregnant cows
  • young heifers
  • cows who over respond or don’t respond to normal ET.

IVF collections at our centre in Mt Compass are weekly or fortnightly.  We can arrange to do on farm collections providing the oocytes can get to our lab in Adelaide within 24 hours.
